chistopolian high-flying pigeon
Chistopolian high-flying pigeon
Calm, hardy, flight-oriented. High flocking tendency, minimal aggression toward conspecifics, strong homing instinct to the native loft. Birds are calm in housing but very active in the air.
Chistopol high-flying pigeon — medium-sized, light and dry pigeon with a «swallow-like» body type, bred for prolonged high-altitude flight. Weight 260–340 g, body length 320–370 mm, wingspan 620–680 mm. Head small, rounded-oval, slightly elongated. Eyes large with pearly-white or light-silver iris. Beak thin, straight, 18–22 mm. Neck long, thin, gracefully curved. Body narrow, elongated, chest convex (width 55–65 mm). Back long, straight or slightly sloping. Wings long, tips extend beyond the tail by 15–25 mm. Tail narrow, 12–14 tail feathers, length 110–130 mm. Legs short (tarsus 28–34 mm). Plumage dense, smooth, shiny. Allowed colors: black (raven with green-violet sheen), dark-gray with belts, red (brick-red/cherry), yellow (lemon), white. Differs from the base species by lower weight, drier build, long narrow wings and exceptional ability for high-altitude «columnar» flight up to 6–8 hours.
