Ochotona princeps
The American pika is a small animal with a rounded body and short legs. It lives among rocks in the mountains of North America and makes loud whistling cries when in danger.
The American pika differs from hares and rabbits in that it has almost no tail and stores hay for the winter instead of hibernating. It is important for nature as an indicator of climate warming because it does not tolerate heat well and disappears from the lower parts of mountains.
