The steppe vole is a small rodent with a body length of up to 13 centimeters. It lives in steppes and semi-deserts and feeds on grass.
The steppe vole differs from other voles by its very short tail and change of fur color in winter. It is important for nature as the main food for steppe predators and as an animal that loosens the soil in burrows.
