Danzig Highflyer (Danziger Hochflieger)
Calm, non-aggressive, highly active in flight. Strong instinct for long and high flight (up to 6–8 hours without landing). Gets along well in a flock, oriented towards returning to the dovecote.
Danzig Highflyer — medium-sized, light and graceful breed of domestic pigeons, bred for long and very high flock flight. Weight 240–310 g (ideally 260–280 g), body length 280–340 mm, wingspan 620–680 mm. Slim, toned “flying” constitution: narrow elongated body, deep chest, long strongly curved wings. Small rounded smooth head (45–52 mm), without ornaments. Eyes large dark brown to black (iris diameter 9–11 mm). Beak thin straight (18–22 mm). Neck long thin gracefully curved (75–90 mm). Narrow deep keel-shaped body, long straight back, narrow deep chest, tucked-up abdomen. Wings very long narrow (folded 190–215 mm), tips extend beyond the tail by 20–35 mm. Narrow tightly closed tail of 12 feathers (85–105 mm), held horizontally. Legs short (tarsus 28–34 mm), fully feathered with short tightly fitting feathers (“pants” of medium density). Plumage dense smooth shiny. Acceptable colors: black, red, yellow, blue, silver, black-pied, red-pied, pure white. Differs from other high-flying breeds by lighter graceful body, very long narrow wings, fully feathered tarsi, small “dry” head without crests. Ideal proportions: body length to wing length 1:1.65–1.75; head 1/6.5–1/7 of total length.
