forktail lates
Lates microlepis
Lates microlepis, or the fork-tailed lates, is a predatory fish that lives only in Lake Tanganyika in Africa. It has a strongly forked caudal fin and large eyes.
The fork-tailed latid differs from related species by its smaller body size and strongly forked tail. As a predator, it helps control the population of small fish and maintains natural balance in Lake Tanganyika.
