The Hawaiian petrel is a medium-sized seabird from the Procellariidae family. It spends almost its entire life flying over the Pacific Ocean and comes to the Hawaiian Islands only to raise chicks in mountain burrows.
The Hawaiian petrel differs from other petrels in the dark coloration of its rump and voice. It is important for nature because it transfers nutrients from the ocean to the islands and serves as food for local predators.
