Domestic Show Flight
Energetic, highly active, flight-oriented. Strong homing instinct, flocking, peaceful toward humans and other pigeons, but may be territorial during nesting. High endurance and speed in the air.
Domestic Show Flight — a relatively small, compact, but strongly built pigeon. Male weight 340–410 g, female weight 300–370 g. Body length 280–330 mm. Build typically "flight", but with decorative features: short, broad, muscular body with pronounced breast and very dense, streamlined plumage. Head small, rounded, slightly convex in the parietal region, forehead high and broad. Eyes large, expressive. Beak of medium length (18–22 mm), straight. Neck of medium length (65–75 mm), strong, with a characteristic rounded throat pouch. Body short, broad, deep, breast broad and rounded, back short. Wings held tightly, wing length 190–215 mm. Tail short (90–110 mm), tightly folded, 12–14 rectrices, carried almost horizontally. Legs short (tarsus 28–34 mm), unfeathered. Plumage very dense, smooth, with strong sheen. Differs from the wild rock pigeon by smaller size, more compact build, rounded head, large eyes, dense glossy plumage and flight posture. Acceptable colors: black (with green metallic sheen), red, yellow, blue, silver, dun. Ideal proportions: body length ≈ wing length, breast depth 35–38 % of total length, head 1/7–1/8 of body length. Disqualifying faults: long narrow body, feathered tarsi, white feathers in wings/tail of solid-colored birds, weak color, narrow breast.
