Garra gotila, or gotila, is a small freshwater fish from the carp family. It lives in fast mountain rivers and streams of South Asia and uses a sucker-shaped mouth to firmly hold onto stones in strong currents.
Garra gotila differs from related species by its particularly powerful sucker mouth with tubercles, which allows it to live in very fast streams where other fish cannot hold on. It is important for nature because it controls the growth of algae on stones and serves as food for larger fish.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
