Triportheus angulatus
Triportheus angulatus
Triportheus angulatus is a small freshwater fish from the Amazon basin. It has a high body, strongly compressed from the sides, and large pectoral fins that allow it to jump out of the water up to several meters.
Triportheus angulatus differs from other characin fish by its special body shape and its ability to jump far out of the water to escape from predators. It plays an important role in the food chain of the Amazon rivers, eating insects and serving as food for larger fish.
