Neopelma chrysolophum is a small bird of the manakin family that lives only in the mountain forests of Serra do Mar in southeastern Brazil. Males raise a bright yellow crest on their heads during courtship to attract females.
Neopelma chrysolophum differs from related species by the bright golden crest in males and special courtship sounds. The bird is important for the forest because it disperses plant seeds and serves as food for predators.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
