The Alaotran gentle lemur is a small primate with gray-brown fur. It lives only in reed thickets around Lake Alaotra in Madagascar and is endangered.
The Alaotran lemur differs from other lemurs in that it lives not in the forest, but in reed swamps and feeds mainly on reed stems. It is important for nature as part of the unique ecosystem of Lake Alaotra and helps preserve plants.
