white sturgeon
Acipenser transmontanus
The white sturgeon is one of the largest freshwater fish in North America. It has a long body with five rows of bony plates, a cartilaginous skeleton, and sensitive barbels near the mouth.
The white sturgeon differs from other sturgeons by its enormous size and a lifespan of more than a hundred years. It is important for nature because it mixes the bottom soil and serves as part of the food chain in rivers.
