red-billed buffalo weaver
Bubalornis niger
The black buffalo weaver is a large African bird with a strong red bill. Males are completely black, females brown. These birds live in large colonies and build huge communal nests from thorny branches.
The black buffalo weaver differs from other weavers by its large size and construction of the largest nests among birds. It helps control insects in the savanna and serves as food for predators.
