Psittacula exsul
The Rodrigues ring-necked parakeet was a medium-sized green parrot with a long tail. It lived only on Rodrigues Island in the Indian Ocean and went fully extinct in 1875 due to hunting and deforestation.
The Rodrigues ring-necked parakeet differed from related species in its larger size and special neck coloration in males. It helped disperse seeds of local plants. Its extinction shows how quickly species disappear on small islands with human presence.
