Hooves strong, round, often bluish-black or dark horn. Tail low-set, thick. Coat fine, dense, short and shiny in summer, with dense undercoat in winter. Allowed colors: bay, dark bay, chestnut, brown, dark bay, gray (including steel), liver chestnut. Disqualifying: skewbald, piebald, cream, champagne, tiger or leopard patterns. Distinguished by exceptional bone strength at small stature, “cat-like” agility, low center of gravity, “Eastern” dry head.
