Calm, balanced, moderately active. Gets along well with other pigeons. The homing instinct is weakly expressed compared to carrier breeds. Prefers to spend time on the roof or in the dovecote, not prone to long flights.
Polish Helmet (Polnische Kalotte / Krymka Polska) — small, compact, short-bodied ornamental breed of domestic pigeons. Weight 240–310 g, body length 280–340 mm. Gives the impression of a round and dense bird with a strongly shortened body. Main distinguishing feature — highly developed, wide, high cushion-shaped crest (helmet) in the shape of an almost perfect hemisphere, covering the upper part of the head from the occiput to the middle of the forehead, dense, velvety, without rosette. Head large, rounded, broad. Beak short and thick (14–17 mm). Body almost spherical, back short and broad, chest broad and rounded. Wings short (160–185 mm), not reaching the end of the tail by 15–25 mm. Tail short (70–85 mm), tightly closed. Legs short, clean-legged (tarsus 28–34 mm). Plumage dense, smooth, with sheen. Distinguished from the base type by dwarf size, absence of wild pattern, crest shape, and shortened beak. Distinguished from the German helmet pigeon by a rounder body, higher and rounder crest, and smaller size. Allowed colors: black, red, yellow, blue, silver, white, pied (monk). Ideal: head with crest comprises 1/3 of total length, body almost equal in height and length. Disqualifying faults: flat or disintegrating crest, rosette in crest, long body, feathered tarsi, excessively long beak.
