Schmalkalden Moorhead
Calm, balanced, moderately active. Gets along well with other pigeons. Strong instinct for incubation and raising offspring. Not prone to aggression, but may show territoriality during nesting.
Schmalkalden Moorhead — medium-sized ornamental breed of domestic pigeons (weight 280–380 g, ideally 310–350 g; body length 220–260 mm). Compact, dense, "cubic" body conformation with a broad rounded chest, short thick neck and proud almost vertical posture. Distinguished by an extremely developed dense upright mane (crest), starting at the occiput and completely covering the neck to the middle or below, forming a "lion's mane". The head is relatively large and rounded (length 45–52 mm). Beak of medium length (18–22 mm). Wings held tightly against the body, length 160–185 mm. Tail short (70–85 mm), with 12–14 rectrices. Legs short, clean-legged (tarsus 28–34 mm). Plumage dense, glossy, close-fitting, except for the elongated vertical feathers of the mane. Main color — black with a pure white mane; also red, yellow, silver with a white mane. Clear boundary between the colored head/body and the white mane. Differs from the basic type and other "Moors" by the maximally abundant mane completely covering the neck, absence of leg feathers, compact body conformation and bright contrast.
