Bascanichthys bascanium
The black eel Bascanichthys bascanium is a marine fish from the snake blenny family. It has a long thin dark-colored body with which it easily buries itself in the sand on the sea floor.
The black eel differs from other eels in its very dark coloration and habit of completely hiding in the sand. It is important for nature because it loosens the bottom sediment and serves as food for larger marine animals.
