franklin's gull
Leucophaeus pipixcan
Franklin's gull is a small bird of the gull family. It nests in colonies on the marshes of the North American prairies and migrates to the shores of South America for the winter.
Franklin's gull differs from other gulls by its black head in summer and choice of freshwater marshes for nesting away from the sea. It is useful for eating many harmful insects and as a link in the marsh food chain.
