Acipenser oxyrinchus
The shortnose sturgeon is a large fish from the sturgeon family. It lives in coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean off the shores of North America, but enters rivers for reproduction.
The shortnose sturgeon differs from other sturgeons by its sharper snout shape. It is important for nature as a consumer of bottom-dwelling animals and as part of an ancient group of fish. Currently, the species has greatly declined due to overfishing and river alterations.
