sverdlovsk blue-gray mottle-headed pigeon
Sverdlovsk blue-gray mottle-headed pigeon
Calm, balanced, moderately active. Navigates the terrain well, has a pronounced instinct to return home. Non-aggressive towards conspecifics, easily gets along in a flock. Typical carrier-decorative pigeon with pronounced attachment to home and owner.
Medium-sized urban-type pigeon, bred in the Sverdlovsk region. Weight 310–420 g, body length 280–340 mm, wingspan 580–660 mm. Build strong and proportional, with a broad chest and slightly elevated posture. Distinctive feature — stable inherited marbled (mottled) head coloration: light blue-gray or bluish-gray background with symmetrical white or light-gray spots and speckles. Body of rich blue-gray color with metallic green-violet sheen on the neck and chest. White or light-gray mottling present on the wings and tail; tips of flight and tail feathers often white. No crest. Differs from the basic Columba livia by its compact build and decorative head pattern; from other marbled breeds — by the specific “Sverdlovsk” type of head mottling (high percentage of white on the crown while retaining the blue-gray body background).
