Lizard Canary
Active, lively, curious, relatively calm compared to other decorative canaries. Gets along well in groups, but males are territorial during singing. Retains a strong singing instinct, especially males.
Lizard Canary — one of the oldest canary breeds with a unique “lizard” (scaly) feather pattern that persists after molting. Small, elegant yet sturdy bird of compact, proportional build. Body length 120–130 mm (ideally 125 mm), weight 14–22 g (optimally 16–19 g). Head small and rounded, without crest. Beak short, straight, conical, 8–10 mm. Eyes large, dark brown or black. Neck short and thick. Body cylindrical with straight broad back, rounded chest and tucked abdomen. Wings held close, 65–72 mm. Legs short and strong (tarsus 12–15 mm), dark brown to black. Claws light and short. Tail straight, 45–55 mm. Main distinguishing feature — dark edging and light center of each feather, creating a lizard-scale effect on the back, shoulders, wings and flanks. Classic colors: Gold Lizard (golden-yellow ground with black pattern) and Silver Lizard (silvery-gray ground with black pattern). Bronze and Copper are permitted. Faults: absence of pattern, white spots on the head, red eyes, crest, size outside 115–135 mm, light legs.
Pecks and cleans seeds with its strong conical beak.
