öland goose
Öland Goose (Ölandsgås)
Calm, vigilant, active, well-developed brooding and offspring protection instinct. Less aggressive than many other goose breeds, but retains a strong territorial instinct. Gets along well in mixed flocks.
Ölandsgås — small, light, tall-legged breed of domestic geese, bred on the island of Öland (Sweden) from the gray goose. Distinguished by a slender, almost athletic build, high body position, long thin legs, long thin neck and graceful small head. Body length 750–920 mm. Weight of ganders 3800–5200 g, geese 3200–4300 g. Neck length 380–480 mm. Beak length 44–58 mm. Shank length 88–115 mm. Proportions: body length to height at withers ≈ 2.1–2.3 : 1; neck length ≈ 55–60% of body length; shank ≥ 22% of body length. Acceptable colors: gray (wild), white, piebald. High ability to fly. Differs from the gray goose by significantly smaller size, more graceful and light build, longer legs and thin neck.
