Common chinchila
Chinchilla lanigera
The long-tailed chinchilla is a small rodent with very thick soft fur. It lives in the rocky mountains of Chile and jumps well on rocks.
Chinchillas have the densest fur among all mammals and the ability to jump long distances across rocks. They are important for the nature of the Chilean mountains because they help spread plant seeds and serve as food for predators.
