The erect-crested penguin, or Sclater's penguin, is a medium-sized seabird with a bright yellow crest of feathers that stand straight up. It inhabits the subantarctic islands near New Zealand and spends most of its life in the cold ocean.
Sclater's Penguin differs from other crested penguins in that its yellow crest stands strictly vertically. It plays an important role in the ocean food chain, eating small animals and serving as prey for sea leopards and killer whales.
