northern tamandua
Tamandua mexicana
The Mexican tamandua is a small mammal from the anteater group. It lives in the forests of Central America, climbs trees well, and feeds on ants and termites.
The Mexican tamandua differs from the southern tamandua by a more distinct black stripe on the back and a northern range. It is important for nature because it controls the population of ants and termites in forest ecosystems.
