hula painted frog
Latonia nigriventer
The Israeli painted frog, or black-bellied disc-tongued frog, is a rare species of amphibian that lives only in the Hula Valley in Israel. Scientists long considered it extinct until it was rediscovered in 2011.
This frog stands out for its black belly with white spots from all other species. It is important for nature as an indicator of swamp health and helps control insect population growth.
