The Hawaiian ʻakialoa is an extinct bird with a very long curved bill. It lived only in the forests of the Hawaiian Islands and belonged to the family of Hawaiian honeycreepers.
The Akialoa stood out among other birds with its unusually long beak, which allowed it to use special food sources. The species went extinct at the end of the 19th century due to deforestation and diseases. It was an important part of the Hawaiian forest ecosystem as a plant pollinator.
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years
