masked shrew
Sorex caecutiens
The Eurasian least shrew is a small mammalian predator from the shrew family. Body length is 5–7 centimeters, and weight is from 4 to 8 grams. It lives in forests and tundras of northern Eurasia and spends almost all its time searching for food.
The Eurasian least shrew differs from closely related shrew species in the coloration of its fur and the size of its skull. It is important for nature because it destroys a large number of harmful insects and serves as food for many predatory birds and mammals.
