The bearded woodpecker is a medium-sized bird from the woodpecker family. It lives in African savannas and dry forests, where it pecks trees in search of insects.
The bearded woodpecker differs from other woodpeckers by a black stripe on the cheek and the habit of often feeding on the ground. It is beneficial for nature because it destroys harmful insects and leaves hollows in which other animals live.
