basra reed warbler
Acrocephalus griseldis
The Iraqi reed warbler is a small songbird about 15 centimeters long. It lives only in the reed swamps of southern Iraq and is considered one of the rarest bird species in the world.
Iraqi reed warbler differs from close species by a special plumage pattern and a very limited range. It is important for nature as part of the food chain of marshes and as an indicator of the state of unique Mesopotamian reed ecosystems.
