King Island Emu
Dromaius novaehollandiae
The black emu is an extinct bird that lived only on King Island off Australia. It was a small flightless species with almost black plumage.
The black emu differed from the common emu in its smaller size and almost black feather color. It helped spread plant seeds on the island. The species completely disappeared due to human hunting in the early 19th century.
