large fig parrot
Psittaculirostris desmarestii
The wedge-tailed little parrot is a small, brightly colored parrot about 14 centimeters long. It lives in the tropical forests of New Guinea and mainly feeds on the fruits of fig trees.
The wedge-tailed pygmy parrot differs from other parrots by its small size, bright head coloration, and wedge-shaped tail. It is important for the forest because it spreads seeds of fig trees.
Tears and cracks fruits with a strong beak right on the trees.
