Chinese fire belly newt
Cynops orientalis
The eastern fire-bellied newt is a small amphibian up to 12 centimeters long. It has a dark back and a bright orange belly with black spots, which warns predators of its poisonous skin.
Differs from related species by its very bright orange belly with distinct black spots. The newt is beneficial for nature because it eats mosquito larvae and serves as food for other animals. Its ability to regenerate lost limbs helps scientists study regeneration.
