Nemacheilichtys rueppelli, or Shimoga loach, is a small freshwater fish of the Nemacheilidae family. It lives only in mountain streams of the Western Ghats in southern India and hides among stones.
This fish differs from other loaches with its unique spot pattern and limited range in the Western Ghats. It helps keep water clean by eating detritus and serves as food for larger fish.
