laysan albatross
Phoebastria immutabilis
The dark-backed albatross is a large seabird with very long wings. It lives in the northern part of the Pacific Ocean, spends most of its time in flight, and returns to islands only to breed.
The dark-backed albatross differs from close species by its dark back and relatively small size. It is important for the ocean ecosystem as a hunter of cephalopods and fish and as an indicator of sea water purity.
