Mola alexandrini
Mola ramsayi
The short moonfish, or Mola alexandrini, is one of the largest bony fish in the world. It has a flat disc-shaped body, a wide lobe instead of a tail, and its weight can exceed two tons.
The short moonfish differs from related species by its shorter body, the shape of the clavus, and the protrusion on its head. It regulates the population of jellyfish in the ocean and carries numerous parasites that then pass to other marine animals.
