Aphanocrex podarces
The Saint Helena plover was a large flightless bird that lived only on Saint Helena Island in the Atlantic Ocean. The species went extinct in the sixteenth century after humans arrived there.
The Saint Elena's bunting differed from other buntings by its complete lack of flying ability and larger body. It was an important part of the island's nature, as it dispersed plant seeds and ate insects. The species disappeared due to cats, rats, and pigs brought by humans.
