Alectroenas rodericana — an extinct species of pigeon that lived only on Rodrigues Island in the Indian Ocean. Adult birds had bright blue plumage; they fed on fruits and seeds of trees.
The Rodrigues pigeon was distinguished by its large size and bright blue color from other pigeons of the Mascarene Islands. It dispersed plant seeds and was an important part of the island's forest ecosystem until it went extinct due to hunting and deforestation.
