The Pinta giant tortoise is a large reptile from Pinzón Island in the Galápagos Archipelago. It is one of the giant tortoise species that can live over a hundred years and plays an important role in dispersing plant seeds.
The Pinta giant tortoise differs from other Galápagos tortoises in shell shape and size. It is important for nature because it carries plant seeds through its intestines and helps them grow in new places. The species nearly disappeared due to introduced rats, but its population is now recovering thanks to scientists' work.
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years
