olson's petrel
Bulweria bifax
The Olson's petrel is a small seabird from Saint Helena Island in the Atlantic Ocean. It belongs to the tube-nosed birds and went extinct after humans and introduced animals arrived on the island.
The Olson's petrel was smaller than the common Bulwer's petrel. It played an important role in transferring nutrients from the ocean to the island's land. The species went extinct due to rats and cats introduced by humans.
