tahiti sandpiper
Prosobonia leucoptera
The Tahitian sandpiper is a small bird from the sandpiper family. This species lived only on the island of Tahiti in the Pacific Ocean and is now considered extinct.
The Tahitian sandpiper stood out with white wings among other sandpipers. It helped control the population of invertebrates on islands but disappeared after the arrival of rats and other introduced animals.
