Growth calculator: how big will the young animal grow
How it works
We know how animals grow: for every species and many breeds we know the average weight and size of a young animal at different ages, from birth to adulthood. Give the age, sex and at least one measurement of the youngster (weight, length, height at the withers or length with the tail) and we will show how big it will most likely grow. This is a range, not an exact number: growth depends on nutrition, health and heredity. The more measurements, the narrower the range.
For now we calculate only for mammals with the necessary data: at present cats and dogs, including many breeds.
An extended version is coming soon. It will take measurements at several ages at once, pull the weight and height from the pet diary and refine the forecast by the sizes of the parents and grandparents.
Up to what age does the growth calculator work?
You can get an estimate. From the age and measurements of the puppy the calculator picks suitable growth lines and shows a range. The more measurements, the narrower it is.
How can I tell that the weight of my puppy is normal?
Compare it with the range for that age: the calculator shows the share of the adult size. If the weight is far outside the range, show the animal to a vet.
How much more will my puppy grow?
Enter the age and the measurements: the calculator shows the share of the adult size already reached and the range the animal can still grow to.
What if my puppy grows faster or slower than the range?
Small deviations are normal. If a measurement is far outside the range, the calculator warns you. Then show the animal to a vet and re-check the measurements.
