Tennessee Walking Horse — a large, sturdy, elegant riding horse with a pronounced walking horse type. Height at withers 1470–1730 mm (optimally 1520–1630 mm). Live weight 410–620 kg. Harmonious conformation with a long body, relatively short back, powerful slightly sloping croup (15–25°), high neck set and proud head carriage. Head of medium size (480–580 mm), dry, profile straight or slightly concave. Eyes large dark brown. Ears 110–140 mm, widely set. Neck long (650–850 mm), muscular with high attachment. Body long, chest girth 1800–2100 mm, back 480–580 mm. Limbs: long shoulder (550–650 mm), long elastic pasterns (180–220 mm), hooves 80–95 mm high. Tail set high, hair reaching the ground. Coat fine, smooth, glossy. Virtually all colors are allowed, the most valuable being bright pinto and spotted. The main distinction is the innate four-beat running walk gait. Proportions: body length noticeably exceeds height at withers, head ~40% of height at withers.
