- Unlike many foxes, the corsac almost lacks the characteristic strong odour.
- The winter coat is much thicker, paler and silkier than the summer coat, allowing survival in harsh steppe conditions.
- The corsac avoids forests and mountains, preferring open steppes, semi-deserts and deserts.
The corsac fox has soft, light fur for warmth and camouflage within its den; adult individuals possess dense, sandy-colored fur that becomes longer and lighter in winter for snow camouflage. The species’ large, pointed ears aid in precisely hearing rodents underground and cooling the body during hot weather, while long, strong legs enable swift running and prey capture. Corsac foxes have a bushy tail that helps maintain balance when running and provides warmth during sleep; the adult has four limbs.
