The Eurasian wryneck occupies a terrestrial landscape, specifically mainland forests, and lives at altitudes up to 2 kilometers. The species thrives in temperate mixed forests with warm summers and many oak, birch, and maple trees, as well as flooded meadows where the ground is frequently inundated with water and abundant grass grows. It also inhabits taiga forests characterized by cold winters and numerous coniferous trees, including spruce and pine. The climate varies, featuring cool to warm summers that are not hot, ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, and is consistently very wet with frequent rainfall and high humidity. Summers are often cool with abundant rain, winters bring significant snowfall and cold temperatures, and some areas experience warm and pleasant summers with plentiful rainfall.
