- The blotched genet is a nocturnal viverrid predator south of the Sahara.
The blotched genet inhabits elevations up to 2.5 kilometers above sea level and is found in tropical savannas, which are hot with uneven rainfall and abundant grass and trees; the species also occupies terrestrial grasslands and steppes, terrestrial herbaceous areas, and forests. The climate varies considerably, including hot steppes with very hot, dry summers and plentiful grass, extremely arid conditions with infrequent rainfall resembling a desert, winters with little precipitation but more rain in summer, hot conditions with little winter precipitation, and consistently hot and wet conditions with nearly daily rainfall. These large-spotted genets live on land, in terrestrial grasslands and steppes, terrestrial herbaceous areas, and forests.
