Semi-wild, cautious, independent. High sociality within the herd, strong self-preservation instinct, low tolerance to humans. Energetic, hardy, adapted to the harsh conditions of high-mountain karst.
Livanj wild horses — small, strongly built, harmonious horses of brachyomorphic type with pronounced signs of primitiveness. Withers height 1380–1520 mm (average 1420–1460 mm in mares, 1440–1480 mm in stallions), live weight 320–480 kg, body length 1480–1620 mm, chest girth 1650–1820 mm, pastern girth 170–195 mm. Format index ≈1.05–1.10 (square format), bone index ≥13 %. Head relatively large, broad in the frontal part, with a "pike" profile. Eyes dark brown, ears 110–140 mm. Neck muscular with high set. Body compact, deep, with withers 145–165 mm, short strong back, slightly sloping croup. Limbs dry and strong, hooves very strong, height at toe 75–90 mm, without feathering. Tail set high, with dense long hair. Coat in winter thick and long (up to 40–50 mm) with undercoat, in summer short. Dominant color — bay of all shades, often with dun markings (zebra striping, dorsal stripe, wings). Bay-dun, buckskin and mouse-dun are allowed. Distinguished by coarse primitive head, strong constitution, strong hooves and pronounced wild coloration.
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years
