Tusheti horse — compact, very hardy mountain breed of horses of small and medium size. Height at withers 132–148 cm (ideal 136–142 cm), weight of mares 280–340 kg, stallions 320–390 kg, oblique body length 138–152 cm, chest girth 148–165 cm, pastern girth 16.5–18.5 cm. Build dry, strong, with a wide deep chest, strong bone and very strong hooves. Head small, dry, with a wide forehead and straight or slightly concave profile. Eyes large, dark brown. Ears of medium length (110–140 mm). Neck of medium length (420–520 mm), muscular, high-set. Body compact, back short and strong, croup slightly sloping. Limbs dry, with strong joints and very strong dark hooves. Coat dense, coarse, with a thick undercoat, in winter lengthens to 40–50 mm. Tail and mane thick and stiff. Acceptable colors: bay (predominant), black-bay, dark bay, chestnut, brown, dun, mouse-gray, roan. Not allowed: piebald markings, leopard spotting, pure white color. Differs from the basic domestic horse in smaller height, more compact square format (index 1.02–1.06), dry constitution and exceptional adaptability to highlands 1800–3000 m.
