Calm, balanced, hardy, friendly towards people, adapts well to tropical climate, has a strong self-preservation instinct, low aggressiveness, resistant to heat and humidity.
Sri Lankan Pony — one of the smallest horse breeds in the world. Compact, sturdy, harmoniously built pony of the brachymorphic type. Height at withers 900–1100 mm (ideal 950–1050 mm), live weight 90–150 kg (usually 100–130 kg). Short wide back, large harmonious head with a broad forehead and slight concavity of the profile, short muscular neck, deep barrel-shaped body, strong short limbs with very strong rounded hooves. Coat short, dense, coarse with a thick undercoat during the rainy season. Acceptable colors: bay (most common), black-bay, dark bay, chestnut of all shades, brown, gray (including dappled), rarely roan and dun. Differs from the basic species Equus caballus by extremely small stature while maintaining the proportions of a true horse, from other Asian ponies — by a shorter wide back, a large broad head, the strongest hoof horn and pronounced dryness of the head with a large convex eye. Proportions: body length ≈ height at withers, chest depth 55–58 % of height, head length 38–40 % of height.
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years
